The European Union and the Government of Moldova will have a common plan of action for eradicating corruption from state institutions. Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Pirkka Tapiola said the fight against corruption must become a priority for Moldova in the European integration process, IPN reports.
According to the ambassador, the elimination of corruption will create preconditions for building a better investment climate without bureaucracy. The EU will not administer Moldova. It will help it implement the initiated reforms aimed at combating corruption. The statements were made in the public debate “Countdown: EU – Moldova relationship before the Vilnius Eastern Partnership Summit”.
Prime Minister Iurie Leanca said that in such a small country as Moldova, the existence of corruption is explained by the presence of relatives in different state bodies. All the Moldovans want the law to be obeyed, but make exceptions for their relatives without hesitation. This is a mentality problem. The EU is ready to provide resources and expertise to Moldova in combating this phenomenon.
