The Republic of Moldova chose the European path and the path of observance of the basic rights and freedoms of its citizens. Moldova speaks out against the own interests of those who criminalize truth-telling and support lie-telling. On June 1, Moldova will be in the center of Europe to stimulate the cooperation and policy dialogue, the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks stated in the inauguration of Europe Day in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Jānis Mažeiks noted that the European Union is solidarity with the Ukrainian people and with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. “We are solidary with the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who have warmly hosted thousands of refugees (from Ukraine). The Moldovans had a hard winter, with large heat bills and inflation that exceeded 30%. The European Union has stood by you. We helped the Government to subsidize the heat bills and offered new opportunities to business people. We opened up possibilities for larger Moldovan exports to the EU. We together created new social services so as to help the persons in need. Together we supported the Ukrainian refugees and the families hosting them. A friend in need is a friend indeed. In total, the European Union mobilized unprecedented support to the value of approximately €1.2 billion to assist Moldova to overcome the multiple crises,” stated the diplomat.
For his part, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that peace is primarily ensured by the people of Ukraine. “We must thank the Ukrainians for the sacrifice they make to ensure peace. Together with the European Union, the Republic of Moldova can become prosperous. Our young people will be able to study at home, to work at home, to start a family, to develop a business and to enjoy the prosperity brought by the European Union. The people from villages and towns want to live as in Europe and we should build Europe here, at home,” stated the official.
“In the European Town, we saw the diversity and beauty of the European unity – a project that unites the people from all over Europe for peace, for modernizing communities and for prosperity. I met determined citizens who want a European, thriving and strong Moldova. We are Europeans and we build Europe at home together.”
The European Town was staged in central Chisinau on May 13. The Parliament Building was lit in the colors of the European Union’s flag on the occasion of Europe Day.
