EU Ambassador in Chisinau denies having accompanied Igor Dodon to Brussels

The Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel refutes the information spread by the Moldovan press, according to which he accompanied the candidate of the Communist Party (PCRM) for mayor general of Chisinau municipality Igor Dodon, on his recent visit to Brussels. The given position is formulated in the Statement of the EU Delegation to Moldova concerning Ambassador Schuebel’s trip to Brussels, issued to Info-Prim Neo. “The Delegation of the European Union to Moldova would like to inform that it takes an absolutely neutral stance in the upcoming local and regional elections in Moldova. In this context, the Delegation would like to stress that the Head of the EU Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Dirk Schuebel, did not accompany the member of Parliament and candidate of the PCRM for the position of mayor of Chisinau, Mr Igor Dodon, on his visit to Brussels. The Delegation merely facilitated the organization of a few unofficial meetings of Mr Dodon with some interlocutors of the European Commission and the European External Action Service at technical level. Furthermore, the Delegation was not involved at all in his meetings with Belgian politicians and officials.” Earlier, the media outlets, including Info-Prim Neo, broadcast a communiqué released by the electoral staff of the PCRM’s candidate, according to which Igor Dodon was accompanied to Brussels by the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova.
