Estonia is ready to assist Moldova in its European integration efforts and to share its experience in building a society where democracy, the rule of law and citizens’ rights are respected, stated the Prime Minister of Estonia Jüri Ratas, who is in Chisinau on a visit, IPN reports.
In a news conference given in concert with Prime Minister Pavel Filip, Jüri Ratas said that Estonia trusts the Republic of Moldova and supports it on its path of European integration. “We trust you and will assist you in developing a stronger society, which would not be influenced by someone from outside, a democratic society that ensures all the fundamental freedoms for its citizens,” stated the Estonian official. Eighteen projects are now implemented in Moldova with Estonia’s support. Another ten projects, in such areas as healthcare, business, security and rural development, are to be initiated.
For his part, Pavel Filip said that last year Moldovan companies received financial assistance from Estonia for taking part in an exhibition of food products. As a result, an important company from Moldova started to export food products to Estonia. Also, Moldovan students benefit from scholarships to study in Estonia, while public servants are trained at the Estonian School of Diplomacy. Moldovan service members receive training at the Estonian National Defense College. About €1 million will go this year to finance bilateral projects with Estonia. This money is invested in the country’s European future, in health, rural development, democracy and good governance.
As to the Transnistrian settlement process, Pavel Filip said Estonia offers full support in this regard. “Estonia not only supports the draft resolution on the withdrawal of the Russian troops from Moldova’s territory that was proposed by Moldova at the UN, but is also the co-author of this draft resolution,” stated the Premier.
He also said that for Moldova, Estonians’ experience in doing reforms is important. “Moldova so far made many mistakes and it is the case to learn from others’ experience,” noted Pavel Filip.
The Estonian Premier Jüri Ratas is paying a visit to Moldova during June 17-19.
