A prisoner of the Pruncul penitentiary was sentenced to five years in jail for committing a road accident that resulted in death, IPN has learned from the Prosecutor General’s Office.
According to prosecutors, the man, who in 2000 got 20 years in prison for murder and robbery, has been held in Penitentiary No. 9 for re-socialization since 2008. In 2012, the detainee evaded and, driving a car at high speed, struck a pedestrian at the entrance to Vatra town. The victim was the local priest aged 53. He died on the spot. After the accident, the offender returned to the penitentiary for the morning roll call.
The 36-year-old prisoner was recently sentenced to five years in jail and is to cumulatively serve nine more years. He was acquitted of jailbreak as the offense could not be proven. The prosecutors intend to appeal the sentence and to demand two more years behind bars for the escape from prison.
