Equipment of Chisinau Archeology Museum modernized with Japan’s support

The modern equipment for restoration and exhibition and educational activity provided by the Government of Japan to the National Museum of Archeology and History of Moldova was presented Wednesday on the completion of the assistance project, Info-Prim Neo reports. The budget of the project was about US$82,000 lei. The money was used to purchase show cases for the exhibition halls, LCD TVs, DVD-players, computer, projector, an acoustic system and equipment for the wood and metal restoration laboratories. The museum’s deputy head Aurelia Cornetski has told Info-Prim Neo that there were outfitted two metal restoration laboratories and one wood restoration laboratory. “Restoration in a museum is essential as 20% of the national cultural patrimony is in a poor condition. It must be saved, restored and passed over to the next generations,” he said. From spring, the TV sets in the exhibition halls will show places from where the exhibits were extracted so as to better convey the atmosphere and theme to the visitors. There will be also screened films within the “A Film at the Museum” Project. Documentaries will be shown at a workshop themed “Archeological Evidence – An Enigma”. Ambassador of Japan to Moldova Tadashi Izawa voiced hope that this assistance will contribute to the development of the relations between the Japanese and Moldovan people. “During my last visit, I saw the cultural inheritance of which the museum is very proud. I will be very glad to witness how the exhibition and restoration equipment will help the people in Moldova know the history and culture of their country,” he said. The project was implemented within the Japanese program of small grants in culture. So far, Japan has provided to Moldova non-reimbursable financial assistance of US$72.7 million and loans of US$48.2 million. The relations between the two countries are regulated by two framework agreements: Kusanone (program of grants in humanitarian security) and the technical cooperation agreement between Moldova and Japan.
