By its resolution recommending offering Moldova the prospect of joining the EU, the European Parliament reminded Moldova that it has a lot of homework to do, considers the secretary of the Liberal parliamentary group Valeriu Munteanu. “It is a positive and rather bold resolution that in fact reminds Moldova that it has a lot of homework to do in the process of joining the EU. The tasks are well defined in this resolution. Emphasis is laid on important internal and external matters. Stress is put on the effort that the Foreign Ministry and other institutions must do for Moldova to be able to switch to a new stage in the relations with the EU,” Valeriu Munteanu told Info-Prim Neo. The Liberal MP said it is the first document of the kind. “Until now, the statements and references were made in other institutions. This document adopted by the European Parliament by a large majority is much more explicit. This shows that the largest part of the MEPs have the same views about Moldova,” said Valeriu Munteanu. He also said the Moldovan people find it difficult to understand certain disputes taking place inside the Alliance for European Integration, but for the European partners these disputes are not a novelty. “When we solve the most important problem – the election of the President of Moldova – the things can be clarified,” said Valeriu Munteanu. He stressed that the European integration is the major objective of the Liberal Party. Any other internal policy issue can be resolved and nothing can hinder the progress made on the path to European integration. On September 15, the European Parliament approved a resolution with its recommendation to the Council, the Commission and the European External Action Service to offer Moldova the prospect of joining the EU one day. The resolution contains a range of important landmarks for the future Moldova-EU relations and was put forward by MEP Sir Graham Watson, the European Parliament's Rapporteur for the EU- Moldova Association Agreement. It refers to paragraph 49 of the Treaty on European Union, which is about the possibility of joining the EU. It points out the dynamic character of the negotiations on the Association Agreement and positively refers to the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime. Also, the MEPs back the launch of talks on the creation of a Free Trade Area by the end of this year.
