EPP supports earliest possible start of talks on Moldova’s EU accession

The European People’s Party fully supports the earliest possible start of the first rounds of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. MEP Siegfried Mureșan and Moldova’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean discussed this at the Local Dialogue on Enlargement, organized by the PPE Group at the European Committee of the Regions on the sidelines of the EPP congress in Bucharest.

During the EPP congress, the MEP also had discussions with Moldova’s President Maia Sandu. “We, the European People’s Party, are united in requesting the start of the first rounds of negotiations regarding the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union as soon as possible. The electoral manifesto of the European People’s Party, which we voted for this evening, clearly mentions that we support all the accession promises made to the Republic of Moldova”, said Siegfried Mureșan.

During the congress, Ursula von der Leyen was elected as the EPP candidate for President of the European Commission. “Over the next three months, we will campaign and talk about the good things that the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, and we, the European Parliament, have achieved for people, including the adoption of the European Recovery and Resilience Facility, the largest investment plan in the history of the European Union and from which our country receives almost 30 billion euros, the reduction of energy dependence on the Russian Federation and the decision to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine”, Siegfried Mureșan added.
