Environment NGO finds better way to clean Valea Morilor lake
Evacuating the mud from Valea Morilor lake is aimed at “enriching someone from the top”. The opinion was uttered by the president of the Chisinau Branch of the Environment Movement from, Vladimir Garaba, on July 2, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Garaba told a news conference that “someone continues to pump the water from the lake to the Bac river, although there is no such a project endorsed by all agencies in charge.” According to him, the company “Autocontrans”, selected in October 2006 to clean the mud from the lake, continues to do so “to get nice money – some 30-40 million lei.”
The ecologist says there is a much more environment-friendly way to clean the lake, which also needs less investments. If the water was not evacuated, the mud could be absorbed with a pump. After dehydraditing the mud, it could be used as a fertilizer.
Asked by Info-Prim Neo, the chief of the Capital Constructions Direction of Chisinau, Vasile Panfil, says the works have been ceased and he has not seen Autocontrans workers laboring in the lake's area. The municipality is to finish, this month, a execution project to get the expertise of the Environment Ministry, the Constructions Ministry, the Health Ministry and the Culture and Tourism Ministry. Vasile Panfil has confirmed Vladimir Garaba's statements about Hungarian investors will to develop Valea Morilor Park. “We're negotiating with them,” he said.
The idea of renovating Valea Morilor Park came after all the fish died two years ago, lacking oxygen. The Chisinau City Hall and the Environment and Natural Resources Ministry proposed then to evacuate the water and mud from the lake and to cover its bed with granite slabs. After beginning the works in 2006, they were later stoped because of lack of money.
