Minister of the Environment Gheorghe Salaru called on civil society to take part in the protection of the natural world, especially the parks and protected natural reserves. The call was made in the context of the International Day of Zoological Gardens and Parks that is marked on August 9, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the Ministry, all the members of society must become involved in taking decisions concerning the environment so as to jointly develop a correct approach to consumption.
“We must have will, knowledge and sensibility to protect nature, motivated by the love for the beautiful, our fellows and this land - Moldova. We will achieve results if we cooperate with the local authorities and make concerted effort to extend and protect the green areas by educating Moldova’s population,” said Gheorghe Salaru.
The protected natural reserves in Moldova occupy over 150,000 ha or about 4.65% of the country’s territory. Five scientific reserves occupy almost 10,000 ha, while the humid areas of national importance – about 95,000 ha.
