Environment minister resigns


Iuliana Cantaragiu has resigned from the post of Minister of Environment, announced Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilița.

“Today I accepted the resignation of the Minister of the Environment Iuliana Cantaragiu. I thanked her for her work and dedication in her one year in office, during which the way environmental affairs are managed has been transformed to the core. A new ministry, reformed and reset agencies, new laws and new protected areas, including the Lower Nistru National Park, but also projects aimed at improving the lives of Moldovans - the project that prevents the unjustified increase in the price of firewood, the financing of sewage treatment plants, the start of the national waste management system - all of which have as final beneficiaries every citizen of the Republic of Moldova - are just a few of Iuliana Cantaragiu’s achievements”, the prime minister wrote on her Facebook account.

Iuliana Cantaragiu had been part of the Gavrilița Cabinet since August 2021. She is an expert in the field of environmental protection and the circular economy, with over 20 years of experience in the civil society sector. She was deputy director of the National Environmental Center NGO, and in 2020 she worked as an environmental specialist at the Public Services Agency, within the World Bank-funded project “Land Registration, Evaluation and Local Taxation". She was state secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment in the Sandu Cabinet.
