Entrepreneurs who will recycle packing they place on market will not pay tax on this

The business entities that will retrieve and will recycle the packing they place on the market will be exempted from paying tax on this, in accordance with a bill that was registered in Parliament by MP Ina Coșeru, IPN reports.

According to the MP, the local producers now pay an environmental tax that is by up to ten times lower than the tax paid by importers for the same products. This way, it is necessary to lay down a new basis for taxing packaging waste depending on weight.

“Given the experience of the European countries and according to calculations done at national level, the implementation of the financial instrument depicted above will lead to a reduction in pollution from packaging waste, especially plastic waste and waste that cannot be recycled, manifested through their reintroduction into the economic circuit as secondary material, which, for its part, will enable to more efficiently use the natural resources, reducing this way the volume of waste taken to landfills and protecting both the environment and the health of people,” said the author.

The bill suggests introducing in the legislation new tariff positions for paper, cardboard, plastic, metal and/or wood packing. Only plastic packing, composite primary packing and primary packing from aluminum are now taxed.
