Entrepreneurs optimistic about prospects of doing business in Moldova

The entrepreneurs are more optimistic about the prospects of doing business in Moldova, shows the Business Barometer for the first quarter compiled by the France – Moldova Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Moldovan-German Business Association (MDW) and Magenta Consulting. Compared with the previous barometer, the opinions collected from 610 companies operating in different areas of activity show that the situation has improved and the conditions of doing business became more predictable, IPN reports.

In a news conference, the head of the France – Moldova Chamber of Trade and Industry Emmanuel Skoulios said that among the factors mentioned by the respondents are the imposition by the Government of a moratorium on state inspections at business entities, the appointment of a new governor at the National Bank of Moldova and the ensuring of particular stability in society.

Andrei Ciobanu, the representative of Magenta Consulting, stated that the prospects of doing business in the second quarter are rated by one point higher than those in the first quarter. The turnover in the first quarter didn’t increase, but the entrepreneurs expect that this will rise in the second and next quarters. As regards employment, the result was a negative one, but the entrepreneurs are hopeful that this indicator will also grow during the next three months.

The businesspeople are less optimistic about investment. This indicator was at the level 0 in the first quarter and the expectations for the second quarter are rather pessimistic. The business climate is assessed as inappropriate owing to bureaucracy and unsatisfactory interaction between the business community and the state bodies.

The Business Barometer was carried out between April 18 and May 12.
