The Democratic Party is exploring the possibility of holding a referendum on the enshrining of the European integration objective in the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova if the vote on the given initiative in Parliament fails. The plebiscite could take place simultaneously with the parliamentary elections, Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu stated before the October 18 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.
“We presume that the initiative will not be supported by the PLDM and PL. If so, this will not be the failure of the PDM or another party. It will be the failure of the whole political class, of the country that had the chance of building a European future,” stated Andrian Candu.
He also said the subject concerning the amendment of Article 13 of the Constitution, regarding the Romanian language, remains on the Parliament’s agenda, but the European integration issue cannot be conditioned by anything.
In another development, Andrian Candu confirmed that the PDM will stage an event in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau on October 21.
