Enhancements proposed for biometric passports
The new biometric passports could contain images of remarkable personalities like Eugen Doga, Maria Biesu, Grigore Vieru, Emil Loteanu or of national monuments like monasteries, fortresses or even natural symbols.
The vice director of the Cultural Heritage Institute within the Academy of Sciences, Silviu Tabac, told Info-Prim Neo there were proposed about 50 symbolic images, received from the Cultural Heritage Institute, from the Society of Genealogy, Heraldry and Archives Paul Gore, from the National Heraldry Commission and other institutions.
The head of the Technology and Production Department of the State Informational Resources Center, Victor Recenco, said only a few symbolic images could be selected. Perhaps, the passport could have a different picture on each page.
The National Heraldry Commission will meet by the end of February and will choose the best symbols to be included in the biometric passports. So far, the ePassports have only the Moldovan coat of arms and a lateral decoration.
