In order to deepen the relations between Romania and Moldova, it is necessary to speed up the energy infrastructure interconnection projects. Thus, it is important to complete the Iași-Ungheni-Chișinău gas pipeline construction works, planned for April-May 2020. The statements were made at yesterday's meeting between Prime Minister Maia Sandu and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Ramona Mănescu.
The Moldovan prime minister expressed her gratitude for the support provided by Romania to Moldova and highlighted the importance of active political dialogue and broad cross-industry cooperation, developed within the European Strategic Partnership. Maia Sandu said that Romania is a reliable trading partner and that the trade-economic relations have a positive dynamic.
"We appreciate the promptness and openness with which the government of Romania has responded to the request of the Moldovan government in regard to the support needed in order to achieve our objective of aligning and connecting our country to European standards and values, which can be achieved by modernizing the country, eradicating corruption and reforming the justice system", said Maia Sandu, quoted in a press release issued by the government.
Prime Minister Maia Sandu and Ramona Mănescu appreciated the achievement of successful joint projects, expressing their interest in the continuation in priority areas, such as education, culture, energy, agriculture and other sectors.
“Romania is firm in providing support to the Republic of Moldova by implementing several cooperation projects, namely energy infrastructure that is mutually advantageous, political support for strengthening bilateral relations and financial relations support. Romania's commitment to the Republic of Moldova is part of the Romanian state’s DNA and will continue with the same intensity, regardless of who is in government or who is president of Romania” said Ramona Mănescu.
Additionally, the officials reiterated the importance of improving the border traffic flow by coordinating joint actions, including the synchronization of personnel number of customs authorities and border police at crossing points in order to avoid traffic jams. Moreover, the positive progress registered in the negotiation process regarding the reduction of roaming tariffs was welcomed.
