Energy projects will be continued with UN support

The Energy and Biomass Project and the ESCO Moldova Project will be continued with the support of the United Nations. Such an agreement was reached by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Octavian Calmac and UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in Moldova Dafina Gercheva. The two officials also considered the possibility of strengthening the cooperation at different levels so that the renewable energy potential in the Moldovan communities could be fully realized, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Economy, in the meeting Dafina Gherceva said the UN will continue to support the initiated projects whose final goal is to increase the use of renewable energy in public buildings by 15%. “Biomass energy will ensure the energy security of the Republic of Moldova in the future so that it is not dependent on external factors,” stated the official.

For his part, Octavian Calmac said the promotion of energy efficiency is a strategic activity for the Republic of Moldova. To improve the situation in this sector, a series of measures will be taken to put the gas users and renewable energy users in equal conditions.
