Three hospitals, five kindergartens and 14 high schools in Chisinau benefited from energy efficiency and thermal rehabilitation projects to the value of €25 million, which were funded by the EBRD and EIB. Another 27 educational institutions were thermally rehabilitated with funds from the municipal budget. Thermal insulation works were carried out in dozens of residential blocks, IPN reports.
“The basic criteria for selecting these buildings were, first of all, energy consumption per m2. We are talking about particular buildings (schools, kindergartens, hospitals) that in 2018 had very high consumption, even if the maximum temperature didn’t exceed +14/+16 degrees in rooms,” Natalia Chelaru, energy efficiency project manager, stated in the podcast “Chisinau LIVE”.
Works were carried out to thermally insulate walls, roofs, basements, to install thermal points, to modernize the distribution points, to change windows, to set up photovoltaic panels or include recuperators. “The goals were very ambitious. Particular performance indicators were set to reduce consumption by 25% and this figure was reached and even exceeded,” added Natalia Chelari.
Launched in 2021, the Energy Efficiency and Thermal Rehabilitation of Buildings in Chisinau project is at the final stage of implementation.
