The Chisinau Municipal Council on March 9 approved the energy efficiency and thermal insulation of public buildings project that is financed by the EBRD and EIB, IPN reports.

The project was supported by 17 councilors of the Liberal Party, four councilors of the bloc “Iurie Leanca”, two councilors of the Liberal Democratic Party, one councilor of the Democratic Party and one of the Communist Party and by unaffiliated councilors Oleg Onishchenko and Ion Stefanita. The councilors of Our Party and the Party of Socialists abstained.

Now that the project was voted as a basis, particular changes will be made to it at the suggestion of councilors.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, who presented the project, said it is normal to institute mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of the project and these will show that the doubts expressed by some are groundless.

The energy efficiency and thermal insulation of public buildings and apartment buildings in Chisinau municipality project has a budget of €25 million. €20 million represents the loan provided by the EBRD and EIB, while €5 million is a grant.
