Energy consumption expected to increase by 15% Thursday

On the first working day after the holidays, electricity consumption is forecast to be by 15% higher than the previous day, January 8. But the amount is smaller than on Friday, January 3, which was also a working day.

JSC Energocom said that it had reserved commercial capacity at the border with Romania in order to meet the electricity consumption needs of the right bank of the Nistru River for Thursday.

Due to the warm weather, the district heating plants in Chisinau and Balti will produce less electricity, while a slight increase in the amount of renewable energy is anticipated.

Thus, on January 9, in addition to local production, the rest of the electricity will be imported and purchased from the stock exchange.

The Government's crisis cell noted that for January 7-8, the electricity consumption was fully ensured for the right bank, without the need to use emergency supply contracts.

At the same time, electricity for the left bank is still provided by the MGRES power plant, which operates on coal. Given that there is an acute shortage of energy, chain disconnections of eight hours a day are carried out in order to avoid overloading the grid.
