The country’s capital city is hosting the Social Forum of the Energy Community, whose presidency is held by Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. Deputy Minister of Economy Ilarion Popa said the meeting will center upon consumer protection when the energy resources are limited and the Southeast European countries’ dependence on foreign resources increases. “It is a topical problem for Moldova given the permanent rise in the prices of energy resources and the charges for end-users. There will be discussed the provisions of the European legislation on consumer protection and the involvement of the social dialogue partners, trade unions and employers in dealing with this problem. It is planned that within the forum Moldova and Ukraine will sign the Social Memorandum of the Energy Community, under which the two countries will exchange good practices,” said Ilarion Popa. The meeting of Eastern Partnership Platform 3 (Energy Security) will take place in Chisinau on October 5. The agenda includes issues concerning energy cooperation between the member states of the Energy Community and with partners from outside, the role of the regulators in a free market, and the security of energy supplies. There will be adopted a plan of action for creating a common energy market and reducing carbon emissions. The Ministerial Council of the Energy Community will convene on October 6. It will debate the safe supply of energy resources and examine the draft regional energy strategy and the investment priorities in energy infrastructure. Moldova became a fully-fledged member of the Energy Community in 2010. It has held the presidency of this regional organization this year. Montenegro will take over in 2012.
