The progress made by Moldova on the path of European integration, the current regional situation and ways in which the European Union can provide support to overcome challenges in the energy sector were discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and European leaders in Davos, IPN reports.
The prime minister underlined the need to combine forces to overcome the humanitarian crisis created in the Transnistrian region after the Russian company Gazprom stopped natural gas supplies.
The topic was discussed with Marta Kos, European Commissioner for Enlargement, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Radosław Sikorski, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Jean-Noel Barrot, and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania Emil Hurezeanu.
"Against the background of hybrid threats and foreign interference, the Republic of Moldova firmly follows its goal of modernization according to the European model. We are confronted by a series of challenges, but we continue to act to support the citizens. Together with the EU and its member states, we are building a stronger Moldova – a European country where the people live in peace and prosperity," said Premier Recean.
In Davos, the Moldovan official met with Daniel Risch, the Prime Minister of the Principality of Liechtenstein. He urged to boost the bilateral agenda for the benefit of both states, with a focus on joint programs implemented in the fields of education and social assistance.
The opportunities to extend the economic cooperation between Serbia and the Republic of Moldova were analyzed during Dorin Recean’s meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić. The common European perspective and the advancement of bilateral relations were discussed with the Chairwoman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Borjana Krišto.
At the meeting with Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commissioner for Trade, Prime Minister Dorin Recean spoke about the investment advantages offered by Moldova and noted that stability and peace in the region are essential conditions for the country’s economic progress. The economic situation was also raised at the meeting with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Odile Renaud-Basso. The interlocutors conferred on the EBRD’s projects in Moldova and the impact of external assistance on the stability and sustainable development of the Republic of Moldova.
The prime minister also had discussions with representatives of top international businesses operating in such fields as renewable energy, IT, agribusiness, financial services, consulting and logistics infrastructure. The official presented Moldova’s investment profile, the current developments in the economy and the ways in which the Government increases the investment attractiveness of the country.
