Employees of Glodeni sugar factory threaten with protests

The trade union committee of the Glodeni sugar factory demands that the administration liquidate the salary arrears, keep the workplaces and deny the accusations made against staff members. Otherwise, they will stage new protests, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference on February 8, Valentina Semeniuc, deputy head of the factory’s trade union committee, said it is the second year that the employees have not received their salaries. Over 2,500 tonnes of sugar to the value of 35 million lei are stored at the factory. The merchandise was sequestrated. Valentina Semeniuc said the only hope of the employees is that the sugar will be sold and the salaries will be paid from the revenues. She accused the factory’s administration of attempting to illegally sell sugar to companies. She also said that legal cases were groundlessly opened against employees of the factory for the attempt to get their salaries by force. Now they face up to eight years in jail. The employees barred access to the factory so that the sugar could not be taken out. They announced that this week they will protest in front of the Chisinau Court of Appeals, where the case is tried. The sugar factory’s administration did not comment on the accusations.
