A 53-year-old woman from Chisinau, a former head of department at a bank, was sentenced to six years in prison for embezzlement after stealing over 1.3 million lei and $135,000 from the banking institution. The sentence was issued by the Buiucani Court of Chisinau City, IPN reports.

According to the investigation, the former employee withdrew the amounts of money in a number of installments, citing false reasons, such as transferring them to other branches. In reality, those branches were not aware of the operations.

Being responsible for managing the funds and protecting the bank's assets, the defendant used her position to embezzle the money.

In court, the woman admitted her guilt.
