An employees of the quarry of Pascani village of Criuleni district, who was responsible for the exploitation of the mine, was arrested based on two criminal cases started over violation of the labor protection rules and quarry exploitation rules. In the evening of November 20, a wall of the quarry collapsed, crushing three workers. Two men died on the spot, while the third man died on the way to the hospital, IPN reports.
Prosecutor Igor Popa told a news conference that the owner of the quarry was also questioned. About 45 persons work at the quarry. It is to be established if these were all employed legally and have work contracts.
Twenty rescuers intervened to help the persons who remained blocked inside the quarry. The bodies of two men were found about 40 meters from the entrance to the quarry. The third worker who was taken out of the debris died on the way to the hospital. A team of psychologists will visit the families of the victims to offer them counseling.
