With the war in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova is suffering numerous humanitarian, economic, energy-related and other consequences, and letting Moldova suffer is equal to deciding that Europe is no longer true to its values, stated French President Emmanuel Macron at a press conference held after the third international donors’ conference for the Republic of Moldova.
“I invite you to participate in this support effort for Moldova, we must be coherent, it is a moral duty. Those who believe in Europe and our values must know that at this moment the economic situation in Moldova is being used by the Russians and their partisans to destabilize the situation... We are committed to help with 26 million euros. We decided to bring more and more money for the Republic of Moldova, for companies. We are giving more than one hundred million euros. I decided, including to regulate matters related to refugees - access to education, food. Two million euros are being mobilized to help public energy reforms”, said Emmanuel Macron.
According to the French president, right from the beginning of the war, France, Germany and Romania decided to launch this initiative to help the Republic of Moldova cope with the consequences of the war in the neighboring country. The first two meetings, in Berlin and Bucharest, made it possible to mobilize the European community to reaffirm the determination to support the Republic of Moldova.
“Today, 34 countries and 15 organizations responded to the call to help the Republic of Moldova. This presence at a very high level shows how great the mobilization is for the Republic of Moldova, and I thank you. Beyond this mobilization, our presence says two things. First of all, about the concrete results that have been achieved and that we must continue. It is also about the fact that we do not have the right to give in”, Emmanuel Macron said.
The first donors’ conference took place in Berlin in April, and the second in Bucharest in July. A total of €600 million was raised for assistance. The next such meeting will take place next year in Chisinau.
