Eminescu’s birthday and death day should be national holidays - President of Writers Union

President of the Union of Writers Mihai Cimpoi proposes to designate January 15 (birthday of Mihai Eminescu) and June 15 (the day the poet died) as national holidays. Cimpoi launched this proposal on Friday, June 15, while he was laying flowers at the monument to the poet located on the Alley of Romanian Literature’s Classics in the Public Park “Stefan cel Mare” in Chisinau. In this context, he said that June 15 is a day dedicated to the memory of Eminescu, “the one who was the greatest of all Romanian-speaking creators and who wrote with God’s hand”. Poet Iulian Filip said that “these days make people closer to the lessons which Eminescu wanted to teach”. The event was attended by artists, politicians, Ambassador of Romania to Moldova Filip Teodorescu, as well as simple admirers of the poet’s creation.
