Emergency Telephone Service 112 functional from March 29

The National Common Emergency Telephone Service 112 became operational today, March 29. The service can be contacted nonstop and free from any landline or cell phone, IPN reports.

The Common Service 112 involves simultaneously a number of emergency services. The numbers 901, 902 and 903 will function in parallel until the end of June. From July all the calls will be redirected to 112.

112 is the common emergency telephone number used in all the EU member states. In Moldova, the proposal to implement the Common Emergency Service was formulated first in May 2012.

A number of 38 operators who will process the calls were employed by contest. The budget of the Common Emergency Telephone Service 112 for this year is 67 million lei.
