Emergency Situations Department participating in disaster response exercise in Croatia

A team formed of 10 experts of the Emergency Situation Department (ESD) takes part in an international disaster response exercise, titled "Idassa 2007" and held in Biograd (Croatia) from 19 to 24 May 2007, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to the ESD, Idassa 2007 will allow participants to practice disaster response mechanisms and capabilities and to enhance co-operation in emergency situations. The exercise scenario was designed to test best practices of how to respond a natural disaster and a terrorist threat at the same time, providing an opportunity for civilian responders and military units to work together. This exercise is organised by the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre (EADRCC), and it brings together teams of professionals from twenty-one Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council (EAPC) nations. Moldova participates in this exercise in compliance with Moldova-NATO IPAP Plan. Moldovan rescuers, together with their foreign colleagues, will try to apply their knowledge in practice - the fictional scenario for the field exercise will comprise a devastating earthquake, further aggravated by chemical leaks in an industrial seaport and a threat of terrorists using a biological agent onboard a passenger plane. Up to this moment, ESD experts participated in 5 such international disaster response exercises.
