The People’s Ombudsman Office presented the results of a study of children’s access to pre-hospital emergency medical assistance services in connection with the ten-day Human Rights period (December 1-10). The study shows the largest part of the national emergency medical assistance stations do not have specialist pediatric teams and the necessary transport, IPN reports.
In a press club meeting, Elena Draghici, senior consultant at the Child Rights Division of the People’s Ombudsman Office, said 63.6% of the respondents from the health sector said they do not have enough units of transport. Among other problems mentioned are the inappropriate equipment of emergency medical assistance units and absence of the necessary pediatric equipment.
The People’s Ombudsman Office recommends stimulating the employment of young pediatric specialists in emergency medical assistance institutions and working out and including an information module on the children’s access to emergency medical assistance services in the school curriculum.
