Embassy of Poland hands over awards to Moldovan journalists

The Embassy of Poland in the Republic of Moldova presented the award “Emeritus for Polish culture” to a number of journalists and people of arts from Chisinau, who distinguished themselves in the creation, popularization and protection of the Polish culture. Poland’s Ambassador in Chisinau Artur Michalski in the event said that by these awards they appreciate the merits in promoting the Polish culture, IPN reports.

Awards were handed over to the director of the Chisinau-based Polish Library “Adam Mickiewicz” Oxana Andreev. The ambassador thanked her for popularizing Polish literature and traditions and for mounting exhibitions dedicated to Polish writers. “It is an honor for me and I’m glad that I’m the director of the Polish library because this enables me to learn a lot about Poland, to see Poland and to tell about Poland from my own experience, not only from books about it,” stated Oxana Andreev, noting that the library stages different activities.

Journalist of the public TV channel Moldova 1 Ludmila Barba, deputy head of the Productions Department of Moldova 1 Leonid Melnic and director of Moldova 1 Mircea Surdu were also awarded.

Svetlana Bivol, director of the State Philharmonic “Sergey Lunkevich” and Larisa Zubcu, director of the Organ Hall of Chisinau, got awards for organizing Polish music concerts. “We indeed had a lot of nice projects. I learned about Poland through the exceptional music of Polish composers and through extraordinary Polish singers. We felt well near you and will miss you,” said Svetlana Bivol.

Tudor Zbarnea, director of the National Museum of Arts of Moldova, was awarded for the many Polish art exhibitions mounted at the Museum. “Both in Poland, which I visited, and here, I realized Polish people’s dignified and thrilling attitude to their culture and history. It is a good lesson for us,” said Tudor Zbarnea.

An award was also presented to the director of the National Theater “Mihai Eminescu” Petru Hadarca. The Theater put on plays by the famous Polish playwright Sławomir Mrożek, including “Out at Sea”. Petru Hadarca said that four years ago, when he knew Ambassador Artur Michalski, he convinced himself that this is a man who turns words into deeds.

Among other awardees were the rector of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts Victoria Melnic and senior lecturer at the Academy’s Visual Language Department Vasile Sitari, head of ZEN Club society Gennady Topolnitski and director general of the State Achieve Service Ion Varta. “Poland is our love and many Moldovans also have this love and sympathy for Poland, in virtue of the fact that we had been neighbors for a long period of time. You protected us even if you faced small conflicts,” said Ion Varta.

Artur Michalski stated that these are people who have a close connection with the Polish culture because the language of culture makes life more intense. These are people who not only propagate national culture, but also promote the exchange between the cultures of the world. Owing to them, the Polish culture comes closer to the Moldovans.
