Elevator Thefts Constitute a Further Reason for the Fastening of the Process of Formation of Residents’ Associations
The municipal authorities are worried about a new phenomenon in the Chisinau municipality – elevator thefts. According to the chief of the housing and layout General Department, Mihai Solcan, no week goes by without announcements of 7 to 10 elevators being disconnected because of the thefts of motors or other parts.
In this respect, the interim mayor Vasile Ursu mentioned, during an operative session in the city hall on Monday, that the theft of elevators is a further reason for the fastening of the process of formation of residents’ associations on the basis of the 23 municipal enterprises. “I am sure, says the mayor, that the elevators are not robbed from the blocks of residents’ associations of privatized households, where owners exist, but from municipal enterprises, where everybody only hangs around offices”, declared Ursu.
According to him, at the present time, 70% of the housing fund in the municipality is managed by municipal enterprises, but the municipality does very little for a satisfactory management. Ursu claims that there is urgent need to create residents’ associations and asked that the responsible people in the city hall get involved in this process as soon as possible.
Solcan said that this process has already started, with actions to transform two municipal enterprises from the Rascani sector and one from the Botanica sector into residents’ associations being currently undertaken.
Another measure planned by the authorities is the fusion of doors from the waste disposal spaces. The mayor says that the lifts are working, and the residents can go down in order to throw the household waste in the rubbish bins on the first floor.
