Elena Podoleanu: Civil society becomes more active. IPN debate

It is evident that civil society becomes more and more active and an increasing number of people go out to protest, demonstrating peacefully and stating their opinions. Also, more people are embracing the unionist current that comes to bring to an end the consequences of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact and that comes with a historic truth to society about what we are and where we should go, Elena Podoleanu, the representative of the National Unity Bloc, said in the public debate “Protest movements in Moldova: motives, manifestations, typical features, developments, benefits, dangers” that was organized by IPN News Agency in partnership with Radio Moldova.

“Currently, the bloc consists of 20 organizations and is open to other organizations that aim to reunite the two Romanian states. “The situation persisting in Moldova since 1991 left the people without hope, especially after 2009, when the people took to the streets. On November 30, 2014 we chose a European future, but, as we see, Moldova has no chances of success anymore,” said the young woman, noting that society embraces this unionist current.

Elena Podoleanu noted that a higher number of people notice that the unionist movement comes not with demagogues, but with a historical truth and they share this ideal. All those who embrace the unionist current can join a new protest set to take place in the Great National Assembly Square on July 5. “We come with a truth to civil society and tell it what we are and where we should go. All our protests are peaceful and every citizen has the right to free expression,” stated the young woman.

She also said that the unionist movement never used its force to promote its ideas and each protester joined them voluntarily. “We only make calls to society. The people who embrace unionism join in with us in our demonstrations, while those who do not, do not join us. What we demand is within the national and international legislation,” noted Elena Podoleanu.

The debate “Protest movements in Moldova: motives, manifestations, typical features, developments, benefits, dangers” is the 39th of the series of debates “Developing political culture by public debates” that are staged with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
