Elena Bodnarenko: Territorial-administrative reform will be done before local elections

The territorial-administrative reform is not only discussed in Moldova, but is also intensely prepared. This will be implemented before the local elections of this year, stated the executive secretary of the Central Committee of the Party of Communists and MP Elena Bodnarenco, IPN reports.

“The territorial-administrative reform was already designed. All the mayor’s offices were divided, but this plan is simply not presented to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova as this idea is not popular and will not bring benefits to the ruling party if it is made public now,” Elena Bodnarenko stated in a program on TVC21 channel.

“I’m convinced that if the Democratic Party forms a majority and remains in power, the territorial-administrative reform will be done this year, swiftly, overnight as usual, before the local elections. The new local elections will be held for the newly formed mayor’s offices,” said the Communist MP.

According to her, now a commune consist of at least 1,500 people, but the new local public administration will be formed for minimum 7,500 people. “In southern Moldova, where the localities are larger, this reform could remain unfelt, but in the northern districts it will be rather hard. We still have mayor’s offices with three-six communities, but there will be 12-15 communities for one mayor’s office in the future,” stated Elena Bodnarenco.

She noted that the bureaucratic staff at the mayor’s office is not so large, of 4-5 employees. It will be hard for the citizens to reach the mayor’s office when there is no transport between localities.
