Electronic voting will become available in local, district and municipal councils. The system will be used in the meetings of local public authorities to check the quorum, to cast votes and to determine the voting results, as a bill that was given a first reading by Parliament provides, IPN reports.
The document stipulates that each councilor will be offered authentication means to access the electronic voting system so as to vote on the discussed decisions.
Under the bill, the meetings of local councils can be broadcast live on national radio and TV stations and on the official website of the local public administration. Furthermore, it is proposed that both the result of electronic voting and the minutes of meetings should be published on the website of the public authorities.
The initiative was drafted by a group of PAS MPs. According to the sponsors, the proposal will increase transparency in the decision-making process at the local level and will optimize voting in local, district and municipal councils.
