The municipality announced that the first stationary ticket validators were installed in trolleybuses No. 30 running to the Airport in the framework of the pilot project to introduce electronic ticketing in the public transport system. Today, validators will be set up in three buses running on route No. 37 on a trial basis, IPN reports.
Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said that each unit of transport has by two validators - one at the middle entrance and another one at the back exist. Payments with cards are made without the ticket inspector’s assistance. The inspector has a special technical card that can be used to check the made payments. The employees of the Electric Transport Company can monitor online all the payments through a special dashboard.
The validators work without the human factor’s intervention. They do not issue tickets. The proof of payments comes through an SMS message or through the bank’s mobile application. “We are in a trial period and therefore bank on the conscience and social responsibility of all the residents,” said the mayor.
Earlier, the Chisinau City Hall tested mobile payment terminals carried by ticket inspectors. These mobile terminals in trolleybuses and buses accepted contactless payments with cards of any bank, of different payment systems, with the smartphone or another device outfitted with contactless technology. Also, the Tap to Phone technology enabled conductors on the public transport to use smartphones as terminals and the commuters could swiftly and safely pay for trips by card, telephone, smart watch, fitness trackers or another device.
The current e-ticketing pilot project in public transport in Chisinau was launched on March 16, 2021. When the pilot project was kicked off, the municipal authorities said that in six months they will present the results and will take a decision as to the subsequent method of paying for public transport services. This hasn’t been yet done.
