Students are more responsible, while parents are more attentive to the results achieved by their children when electronic registers are used in schools, showed the system of electronic registers implemented in 21 secondary schools and lyceums of Chisinau. The head of the General Division of Education, Youth and Sport Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb has told IPN that such registers should exist in all the preuniversity education institutions, but there are yet not enough financial resources for such an initiative.
The costs for implementing the electronic registers in the 21 secondary schools and lyceums are covered by the education institutions with support from parents and economic entities.
Principle of the Theoretical Lyceum “Iulia Hasdeu” Eleonora Goncear said the electronic registers are useful and welcome in the institution she heads. The parents are satisfied that they can follow the grades and absences of their children in electronic format. “The system is rather functional. It is yet additional work for teachers as they have to include the grades in the traditional register and in the electronic one,” she stated, adding that with the appearance of the electronic register, some of the students became more responsible and hardworking.
Elena Catrangiu, principal of the Lyceum “Bogdan Petriceicu Hasdeu”, has a different opinion. She said that the teacher can personally inform the parents when the students do not attend the classes or have low grades. “Why should everything be digitized? Do we have to follow the child? We must trust the children, not follow them,” stated Elena Catrangiu. She added that the teaching staff of the lyceum has the same view.
