Electronic Register of Voters to be implemented in 2015

The Electronic Register of Voters has been installed at the head office of the Central Election Commission (CEC) in the form of computers, servers and databases. But, for the system to work smoothly, there must be set up informational infrastructure in all the 2,000 national electoral bureaus, which are to be connected to the register through the Internet. Also, the voters must be instructed how to use the register, said CEC president Iurie Ciocan, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. The Parliament this week decided to extend the project to create the electronic register until 2015. The decision aroused the dissatisfaction of the Communist lawmakers, who consider that the implementation of the register is delayed without reason. Iurie Ciocan said the objections are groundless as besides money the project involves a series of technical and organizational steps. He stated that the CEC has spent no money yet on the creation of the register. The persons who manage it are named by the Government and experts of the United Nations Development Program. According to the central electoral authority, the Electronic Register of Voter will help prevent multiple voting and any other attempts to violate the electoral legislation. The voters who cast their ballots will be registered and will not be able to vote again.
