Electronic register of voters is designed to improve quality of basic electoral rolls, CEC secretary

The persons who will vote in one of the polling places of Chisinau’s Centru district on September 5 will be included in the electronic register of voters within a pilot project to test the electronic registration system. In a press briefing on Friday, the secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC) Iurie Ciocan reiterated that the electronic register does not substitute the present electoral rolls, Info-Prim Neo reports. An operator will introduce the name, surname, address and the personal code of the voters from Centru district in the computer. The data will be transferred to the CEC’s server. After introducing the personal code of the voter, the operator will be able to see if the person has the right to vote and is at the right polling place. The fact that the given person has voted will be indicated on the CEC’s server in order to avoid multiple voting. There will be by two computers connected to the Commission’s server in every polling place. ”The electronic register of voters is designed to improve the quality of the basic electoral rolls and to prevent multiple voting,” said Iurie Ciocan. The modules of the state-run automated information system “Elections” are tested by the Central Election Commission with the support of the UNDP Moldova-EU Electoral Support to the Republic of Moldova Project.
