The Moldovans will be issued with electronic identity cards from March 1, 2014. On October 2, the Government made a decision concerning the measures that must be taken by the competent authorities in this respect, IPN reports.

According to ICT Minister Pavel Filip, the new identity cards will contain personal data in printed and electronic format stored in an incorporated chip and individualization and security elements that will enable to perform different tasks, including to process and store data. 

The personal data will continue to be kept in the information systems of the responsible public authorities and the people will be able to access them.

The Moldovans will be further able to choose between having a traditional identity card and an electronic one.
