The information from the national polling places is collected with delay as the electronic data collection system failed. In a news conference, Iurie Ciocan, the secretary of the Central Election Commission (CEC), said it could have been a cyber attack on the system, Info-Prim Neo reports. Iurie Ciocan stated that while specialists are fixing the electronic system, the CEC will inform about the voter turnout on the basis of the information provided by the central electoral districts on paper. By 1pm, the CEC gathered data from 25 of the 35 electoral districts. “According to the collected information, the voter turnout by midday was about 11%,” Iurie Ciocan said. “We presume it might have been a cyber attack. A specialized institution is now examining such a version,” Ciocan said, stressing the incident will not affect the result of the referendum.
