Electricity tariffs will rise later if not from January 1, expert

The electric power tariffs could rise by 10% and this rise will cover only the financial deviations sustained by the power supplier, expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative “Viitorul” Victor Parlicov, ex-director of the National Agency for Energy Regulation, stated in an interview for Radio Free Europe, quoted by IPN.

The expert considers the electricity tariffs will grow later if not from January 1, 2017. “I think the people must know that these financial deviations should have been anyway included in the tariff. First of all, they derive from the fact that the Moldovan leu depreciated suddenly at the end of 2014 and the start of 2015. Partially, this was due to the banking frauds. Thus, the depreciation of the national currency led to the necessity of increasing tariffs. This rise was delayed then and will now have to be included in people’s bills,” stated Victor Parlicov.

The expert anticipates that the National Agency for Energy Regulation will postpone taking a decision until new contracts for the supply of power are signed, which will most probably happen next March, so as to include the adjusted figures in the tariffs afterward.
