An electric bus made in Belarus will transport passengers through central Chisinau on a trial basis during a month. Unlike a traditional trolleybus, the electric bus does not need contact networks. This will run from “Alunelul” Park in Buiucani district up to the Railway Terminal. After the trial, the local authorities will decide whether to purchase electric buses for the capital city or not, IPN reports.
According to acting director of the Chisinau Electric Transport Company Denis Chiornyi, the batteries enable the bus to cover a distance of up to 15 km. The charging of batteries at the terminus station takes up to 10 minutes.
The electric bus will run on route “E” that is 13 km long: from “Alunelul” Park along Stefan cel Mare Blvd, Negruzzi St and Gagarin St up to the Railway Terminal. “This is an experiment to see the pluses and minuses. It is a pilot-project that will help us take a decision,” stated Denis Chiornyi.
The electric bus has a capacity of 168 passengers. According to the Company’s acting director, the world tendencies are to lay emphasis on ecological transport, while the electric bus is the most ecological type of transport.
