Electoral register of voters will be ready by parliamentary elections

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will have the electronic register of voters ready for use in the legislative elections of this year. The register was already tested in a number of local elections and referendums. The necessary computing equipment will be purchased soon with the 30 million lei allocated by the authorities for the purpose, the Commission’s chairman Iurie Ciocan said in a news conference held to mark the Global Elections Day, IPN reports.

Iurie Ciocan said that the voters in the next parliamentary elections will take three steps before casting their ballots: 1. will register in the electoral register, 2. will put their signature in the electoral lists, and 3. will have a stamp put in their identity cards.

Besides implementing the electronic register, the CEC has also other priorities this year. Iurie Ciocan called on the MPs to hasten the adoption of the package of laws on the reformation of the system for financing political parties and election campaigns. The CEC will lay special emphasis on gender equality strengthening and already elaborated a plan of action in this respect.

Another priority for this year is to standardize the polling booths so that they are the same color and form.

There will be launched an online application for registering the Moldovan voters from abroad beforehand. This application will help the government to decide in what regions of the world to establish more poling places. The CEC aims to communicate more with the Moldovan people abroad so as to motivate them to take an active part in elections.
