Before legislative elections are held in Moldova in 2009, electoral functionaries will get specific training according to a strategy published in Friday's issue of the Official Gazette, Info-Prim Neo reports. The strategy outlines priorities and sets mechanisms to guarantee the continuous improvement of the knowledge and skills of the electoral functionaries and among the voters. According to the Electoral Code, district electoral councils are set up at least 50 days prior to the polls, while the bureaus of polling stations at least 20 days before election day. Given the particularities and the limited amounts of time alloted to the setting up of these bodies, electoral functionaries often lack adequate training. Insufficient knowledge in the field create difficulties in the activities of these electoral bodies, the Strategy reads. According to the strategy, a center will be founded to provide continuous and specific training to electoral functionaries.
