Electoral bureaus accept applications to vote at place of stay in November 21 elections

The voters who, for health or other reasons, cannot go to the polls on election day can ask to vote with the mobile ballot box at the place of stay as from November 7, IPN reports.

Under the electoral legislation, applications are submitted in written form starting two weeks before election day until 6pm of the day prior to election day. On election day, applications can be filed until 3pm if a medical certificate is also presented.

“Given the state of public health emergency, only persons with symptoms of COVID-19 can vote at the place of stay until 3pm on election day without being obliged to present a medical certificate,” the Central Election Commission said in a press release.

In the local elections, voting at the place of stay can be asked only at the polling station where the voter has the domicile or residence. The persons who cannot file the application to vote at the place of stay themselves can do it through a family member or can ask the social assistant of the mayor’s office to do this. The persons with visual impairments can request to vote at the place of stay verbally too.

On election day, the head of the precinct electoral bureau of the polling station assigns at least two staff members to travel to the voter’s place of stay with the mobile ballot box and the things needed to vote.

Local mayoral elections will take place on November 21 in 15 settlements of Moldova.
