The initiative group for creating the European People’s Party of Moldova (PPEM) thanks all the citizens of Moldova who voted the candidates of the Electoral Bloc PPEM-Iurie Leanca in the local elections of June 30, 2015. “The results we obtained are good and met our realistic expectations given that we entered the election campaign with a party in the process of being created, without the necessary logistic support and money, but with a lot of confidence and enthusiasm,” the PPEM says in a statement, quoted by IPN.
In the local elections, there were chosen 60 district councilors representing the electoral bloc, plus six councilors in the municipality of Chisinau and one councilor in the municipality of Balti as well as 27 mayors (7 of whom in the run-off) and 512 local councilors in villages and towns.
“We had to cope with the pressure exerted by parties that control particular state institutions and to resist undemocratic methods of political competition, but we showed that politics is possible with minimum resources and in a transparent and honest way. It is an important step that we took on the road to building a party that would promote a different type of politics in Moldova, while the impressive vote we won in
Chisinau, for the Municipal Council and for our candidate for mayor general Oazu Nantoi, showed that the people want a profound change in the political class,” reads the statement.
The members of the initiative group said they will use the people’s vote to modernize Moldova and to free it from the grasp of the groups of interest, including at local level. These elections clearly sowed that the European development course of Moldova remains a priority for most of the Moldovans and is beneficial for Moldova as a state. The pro-European parties should respect the people’s vote and should immediately form a majority parliamentary coalition and a functional Government that will be able to take the country out of the deepening crisis.
