Electoral activism of population is very high, opinion

Some 80% of the people eligible to vote are ready to take part in elections, the chairman of the Association of Sociologists and Demographers of the Republic of Moldova Victor Mocanu said in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

“The last poll shows that 13% of those surveyed do not intend to take part in elections, while 15% are not decided who to vote for. Given that a large part of the population went to work or live abroad, the number of those who are decided to take part in the elections is of 80%. It is a very good indicator showing that the population’s activism is very high,” stated Victor Mocanu.

According to him, the poll made public last week shows that the situation inside the political class changed. “While the ruling parties started to gain in popularity in polls, the opposition parties started to lose popularity,” said Victor Mocanu.

Law expert Vitali Catana considers the rating of the ruling parties will continue to grow, while of the opposition parties will continue to decrease. “The first results of the Government’s work already appeared and the population will continue to notice them. The opposition used only populist messages that have an effect on the population only for a short period of time,” he stated.

According to an opinion poll conducted by Intellect Group during June 11-24 on sample of over 1,800 persons from 35 communities, the Party of Socialists, “Our Party” and the Party “Action and Solidarity” are at the top of voters’ preferences despite the slight decline in the support these enjoy. The Democratic Party and the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” rank fifth with the result of about 8.4% of respondents’ preferences.
