Elections to People’s Assembly of Gagauzia put off

The elections to the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia that were set for May 16 were postponed. The Commission for Exceptional Situations of Gagauzia decided to stop the election campaign and will later set a new date of elections, IPN reports.

The local Commission for Exceptional Situations makes reference to the declaring of the state of emergency all over the country until May 30. This way, the election campaign was suspended until May 30 and could be later resumed.

Under the same decision, the Election Commission in Comrat will set the date of elections to the People’s Assembly taking into account the date when the election campaign will be resumed and the period during which this will last.

On January 20, 2021, it was four years of the convening of the first meeting of the People’s Assembly after the elections of November 2016. The People’s Assembly set the elections for May 16.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission decided that new local mayoral elections will be held on May 16 in Camenca village of Glodeni district, Hârtop village of Cimișlia district and in Negurenii Vechi village of Ungheni district. For now, the CEC hasn’t announced any decision concerning the holding of local elections.
