In six constituencies, the elections to choose deputies for the People’s Assembly of Gagauzia were classed as null because the voter turnout there was low, IPN reports, quoting the local news portal nokta.md.

In Constituency No. 27 in Congaz, the voter turnout was 23.8%, in Constituency No.3 in Comrat – 25.3%, in Constituency No.2 in Comrat – 31.1%, in Constituency No. 13 in Beșalma – 29.7%, in Constituency No. 28 in Congaz – 30%, while in Constituency No. 10 in Vulcănești – 30.5%. In these six constituencies, the runoff will be held in two weeks.

The Governor of Gagauzia Irina Vlah voted in Constituency No. 1 in Comrat. As she suffered a head injury, she asked for a mobile ballot box and voted at home.

In her statement for the press, Irina Vlah underlined her expectations of the elections. “We are going through a difficult period. The pandemic crisis was aggravated by the aggressive political conflict that fuels pessimistic moods in society. At the same time, the elections are always an opportunity for determining the start of a new stage, a better stage. The People’s Assembly is an important body of the democratic power that can essentially contribute to developing the autonomous unit. I hope the deputies of the next legislature will focus on building and development,” said Irina Vlah.

The People’s Assembly of Gagauzia has 35 deputies who are electret in 35 single-member constituencies. The ordinary elections held on September 19 involved 122 candidates. Over 4/5 of the competitors preferred to run as independents.
